Cassette, floor standing or ceiling AC: which suits your space?

For a single bedroom, a wall split is the obvious choice. For shops, offices, halls and large lounges, the right unit type matters as much as the size. Here is how the main options compare.

Ceiling cassette

Cassettes spread air evenly in four directions from the centre of the room, so there are no hot corners. Only the grille shows. They need a false ceiling with enough depth for the unit. Compact 2 x 2 ft models fit standard ceiling tiles in offices.

Floor standing

Floor standing units push a strong, long air throw from one cabinet, which suits halls and showrooms. Installation is simple, with no ceiling work. Larger models need three phase power, so check your connection before ordering.

Ceiling suspended

Ceiling suspended units mount under the ceiling, so they work in spaces without a false ceiling, such as shops and restaurants with exposed slabs. Convertible models can also be mounted low on a wall.

Ceiling concealed and ducted

Concealed units hide entirely above the ceiling and deliver air through ducts and slim grilles, so nothing of the AC is visible. One unit can serve several areas through ducting. For very large buildings, ducted splits and rooftop packaged units handle the whole load from one system.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better for a shop: cassette or floor standing?

If the shop has a false ceiling, a cassette spreads air evenly and saves floor space. Without one, a floor standing or ceiling suspended unit is easier to install.

Can a cassette AC be installed without a false ceiling?

No. A cassette sits inside the false ceiling. Without one, choose a ceiling suspended unit instead.

Do large commercial ACs need three phase power?

Many larger floor standing, ducted and all rooftop units run on three phase. Each product page shows the power supply where the catalog states it.
